Shu uemura was founded by Mr. Shu Uemura of Tokyo. The brand originated from Japan and today, is a global brand. The company started off as makeup brand and now have tapped into haircare and more. Shu uemura aims to provide, modern, edgy chic, luxury and innovative products.

This cleansing oil shampoo, for all hair types, is formulated with delicate ingredients that leave the hair balanced with both moisture and volume, without stripping the scalp of its natural oils. The paraben free and silicone free shampoo transforms into a rich foam that effectively draws out the impurities and buildup on the scalp leaving soft, shiny hair with a lightweight finish. Safe on colored hair so your hair color can thrive without sacrificing the health of your hair.

Onsen inspired ferment

Onsens are natural hot springs in Japan (usually inns)
These natural hot springs are formed due to the natural volcanic activities in Japan
The onsens’ water usually contains minerals and chemicals that are believed to provide some body and hair purification properties.
Lastly, Shu uemura uses Onsen-Inspired Ferment from a volcanic source in California as their key ingredient

Packaging

With the packaging design, the bottle looks very sleek and expensive. Additionally, the length of the pump is very short and I need to pump 2-3 times to get enough shampoo to wash my hair.

Texture

The shampoo did not lather nicely in my hair, it was a very light lather, nothing rich or thick. Sad to say, I tried to lather some more but it didn’t produce more bubbles.

Fragrance

The first thing I noticed was the smell, it was very light and not overwhelming. It smells like citrus but on the bitter side, it reminds me of the smell of pomelo/grapefruit – I love it!

Product experience review

I was really excited to try this shampoo out after reading the description.

After washing my hair, the shampoo left my hair feeling a little tangled. However, after my shower, removing excess water, brushing my hair and leaving my hair to air-dry (in braids), my hair looked shiny and felt silky. I loved the way my hair looked, and my scalp was not dried out or itching. Also, my hair overall does feel lighter and smooth compared to before using this shampoo. I have not washed my hair in 3 days and my scalp is surprisingly not oily compared to before where I would need to wash my hair/scalp again after 2 days

Usage tips for using the Cleansing Oil Shampoo

Scrubbing your scalp is essential for healthy hair and general hair hygiene. I highly recommend using a shampoo brush to clean your scalp, it is such a game changer!

Overall, I really like how product left my hair clean and moisturized, however, the pump could be a bit longer and the foam could be a bit richer/thicker to really feel luxurious
